New bike - would you choose disc or rim brake ?

I like disc braking for off road, but for tarmac imo it's 110% overkill. Simply isn't necessary nor worth the grief of maintenance

What do you think of Shimano ditching rim brakes in 105 and higher?

Changed my brake blocks two years ago. Tools required 10mm spanner, time taken 3 minutes. I expect to do the same job in three years time. But seriously... I have a Focus cross bike with cabled discs and it stops absolutely no better than my road bike with Dura Ace rim brakes. In fact the DA...

    Vintage French randonneuer's and porteurs.

I've got something any French aficionados could be interested in! Found 5 of these in an old bike shop in Rouen, France. They are genuine St. Christopher name tags for bicycles, ready for engraving/personalising (AFAIK there was a period post war when bike registration was compulsory). In...

I don’t like new bike technology

I remember my first 10 mile TT.. It rained at the turn (dead turn on a busy A road!) and all the way back I got a great tail wind. Regular 531 frame and 12 speed Suntour gears. Got a 24'04" which I was very happy with. The only aero great I had was my hair (skinhead era)!
