    French thread pedal adaptor?

Some one selling sacre bleu 9/16" axles perhaps?

    French thread pedal adaptor?

Keep the French threaded ones, and get some additional 9/16 perhaps? Oh the joy. Wilfully swap cranks between Pernod and G&T at a moments notice depending on mood, season, appetite, news of the day, Kippers or porridge or croissants in the morning. 🥐

    French thread pedal adaptor?

You see now .... all the dirty washing is come out in the public eye  Just joking. It is an issue. I did a mid-50s French build a while ago and I will be truthful, the damn pedal thread is the single element I can't fudge and move to and fro modern comfort and ancient bondage...

👍 There's probably going to be a fair few stocks still out there for sometime. Then of course Ebay .... 🤔 I wonder if one day there will be a spate of Retrobikers hoarding Alivio T4000, stroking them and trying to convince themselves they are as good as obsolete XTR :LOL:

Staying with French thread means you will never be able to go clipless. Just saying.

These are the last V-Brakes circled in red. It seems you were right @grantoury - indeed it is only the Alivio 4000 Trekking group in todays line up that still has them. https://bike.shimano.com/en-EU/product/component/alivio-t4000.html The others were released prior, and according to this...

..... still trawling. In the 2024 - 2025 Compatibility Charts we see V-Brake pads are still available, but unsurprisingly, and I have known about it for a good few years the specific pads for ceramic coated rims was dropped. I'll probably have a rant over that later

Looking here at the XT Trekking gruppo is a bit odd: https://bike.shimano.com/en-US/product/component/deorext-t8000.html There are normal rim brake hubs listed but no rim brakes :oops:🙁 It then gets even odder going down the pecking order of Deore, Acera, Alivio, Altus and even...

    Result!

The post layback looks normal for a road bike, but the saddle rails and position looks very weird. 🙁 It would be hard to brake (unsafe even) when in the hooks. Flipping the stem would help raise the bars and reduce reach a bit. A flat bar with bar ends could be much more suitable.

Yes ..... and no ..... There are a few key dates, and to stress it does not equal supply and demand. It's only the second tire XT gruppo I've referenced. I think, for us with a retro cantilever frame, if you wanted a full XT gruppo it's M770 and that's the end of. The next release is M780 in...

It still remains 1 in 1000 risk. It does not accumulate over time and is less favourable over time. Maths. Not the same as what is happening in the brain in humans. Just like plane crash statistics if you travel by air often.

There's a rather nice history of Shimano groups here: https://www.shimano.com/en/100th/history/products/31.php For XT the last rim brake and a familiar functioning traditional RD (albeit without a barrel cable adjuster  ) is M770 released in 2007. It was initially 9 speed, and 10 speed...

 ..... oh man. Thanks but no thanks. Not at the speed I go. Personally think this stuff (bar perhaps a few details) is more-or-less grounded from the 90s, some of the last refinements, and possibly the pinnacle of the old school? The road origins and overlap with MTB is evident and putting...

New cassette and chain time. Got to confess to cutting corners and being cheap in this area. 105 / LX level is about the highest I will pay. I see it better to be lazy with cleaning and change out regularly with cheap and reasonable. In the distant past had XT and Ultegra stuff which all felt...

Time to try these out again ...... Seems a long time since I used these. These are rather nice Tektro Quartz M730 and at one point very much XT quality and much lighter than any of the Shimano top-end stuff. Good mud / snow clearance which won't really be an issue. Have had issues matching...

Who remembers these contraptions? How I got carried away with LX front derailleurs is beyond me. It took 18 months to sell a NOS LX FD-M560. I've counted 3 used and 3 NOS LX FD-M565, 5 NOS LX FD-M566, 3 NOS LX FD-571. Officially there is more than my underpant collection. Nothing to do but use...

Rear derailleur - eeny meeny miny moe Choice is a rough looking XT RD-750 that I'll need to check-over, a rough looking Deore RD-M510, a NOS RD-M510, and a 105 RD-5701 with a bit of road rash. These all look outdated now. Always thought Shimano took the pi$$ a bit with the Deore M510 but I...

You were one of the few that made a proper comment IMHO. Rules and conduct of the road should never be a suggestion, but I feel there's a lot of moaning to something pleasant to watch and us get a vibe of cycling in NYC. Hell, you may have noticed she was in a complete minority on the streets...
