What is the maximum tooth sprocket you could fit on the back using a Deore DX rear derailleur?

How does that mech compare in capacity to common Deore LX/DX/XTs?

Thanks, not appropriate for me then it seems as I wanted to put on a retro (90s) bike so seems a poor idea unless changing the whole drivetrain, which I had not intended on, rather keeping the stock RD for this bike.

Are those the 40-42t cassettes? Also I am not familiar with that mech either, being new to the scene, is that an older one of a similar period to deore dx or sometime later?

What is the maximum tooth sprocket you could fit on the back using a Deore DX rear derailleur?

That only accounts for contemporary bikes though doesn't it because manufacturers stopped making these retro bikes decades ago!

What is the maximum tooth sprocket you could fit on the back using a Deore DX rear derailleur?

On a side note, why is the market this way at the moment? I only just came into this community so have no reference. Is this different to other periods and if so what has precipitated it? Brexit. Cost of living? Usual two culprits people state for most British problems. Oh immigration is the hot...

What is the maximum tooth sprocket you could fit on the back using a Deore DX rear derailleur?

I am 1:1 right now at 28/28x26. I noticed last ride it is getting noticeably easier but still I want the option of lower gears if I want them if there are serious and/or long inclines and just want to amble up them. Just like on a car you don't expect to use 1st gear all the time, but it is...

So never upgrade a bike. Stick with single speed and 'mash' up all hills. :D.

What is the maximum tooth sprocket you could fit on the back using a Deore DX rear derailleur?

Yes I see this is a bad idea now, that is, trying to mix new cassettes with old stock. I run up against the wall of the old tech not being compatible with the newer large cassettes. As such I am thinking just stick with even 7s hub and max it out with 34t and instead focus on smaller chainrings...

So, to clarify you can take the larger ones off one by one? I am not versed in the contemporary gear so have to explain in simple talk :). If so that is good, as can use only what RD would handle and have the other bigger ones waiting in the wings if an upgrade of the RD comes in future.

What is the maximum tooth sprocket you could fit on the back using a Deore DX rear derailleur?

I have seen quite a few threads relating to newer road bikes and how they are clearing 40-42t back cogs, some with the help of road links. As I have read, generally the derailleurs are small to medium on road bikes. For mtb, even the old ones, due to having 3x, I read that long cage is...

What is the specific model plz? M4100? I would be interested to make a custom cassette with it and want to check the tooth progressions. Are the larger sprockets all single or are a few of them fused together which I noticed seems to be common for the larger cassettes? Regardless seems good...

Hi does the 15 quid 11sp cassette work on old 8s freehubs or do they require a new hub system again?

Wanted Original bike (90-95 era)/mostly original with period upgrades, rigid frame including rigid forks. Budget ~£80-120

Hi, I thought I recognized the graffiti background from a gumtree ad but seems a coincidence and different bike/graffiti? https://www.gumtree.com/p/bicycles/mens-womens-kona-hahanna-90s-retro-mountain-bike-hybrid-city-commuter/1485582765 Looks good of the one picture. What year? What size...

Who knows their Suginos to tell me which crankset (and which bcds) this is?

Thanks, would that be 74 for the inner ring then? Also do you know what the smallest rings for inner/middle can fit on these bcds?

Who knows their Suginos to tell me which crankset (and which bcds) this is?

From other images it seems different to Impel, but I don't know the names of others. Want to know the bcds to know what options are for swapping chainrings, should the occasion arise.

Sold Shimano Xt 11 spd cassette 11-46t

Hi, if still available, could I use this to make a custom cassette for an older bike or does 11 speed cassette spacing require new chain?

Wanted Original bike (90-95 era)/mostly original with period upgrades, rigid frame including rigid forks. Budget ~£80-120

This is a refinement on my previous request simply for a rigid framed bike. A couple of bikes turned up of really nice builds with contemporary parts and while I found them great jobs overall there would be one or two things they would have changed which I would have preferred original like...

Why are thumb shifters so prized in the retrobike community?

What about 7 speed mech for 8 or 9 cassette? I don't see any need to go higher but thinking either 9-1 or 8-1 sprocket for 7 speed hub. The 7 speed mech will handle it (depending on tooth size of course)? I just had a thought that since cassettes are modular I could just buy a whatever speed...
