Marin Monocoque: a little sister for Team Marin

Well, I think the time is coming to finish off this bike.
I saw that it was becoming too "boring" with so much silver color. It is clear that the color that best matches this bicycle is anodized blue. The bicycle is crying out for it!
I've decided to give it some small, subtle touches of blue.
So I decided to change the nipples on the wheels...how lazy, to remove the wheels that were already mounted and on top of that with straight spokes. a lot of laziness
But it's already done. I love the Ritchey Z Max tires in 1'9. So round and rolling, with those lugs for optimal lateral grip...I definitely love them, very '90s. They look fast just by looking at them.
I found a Maein Lite in blue on the handlebar. When I put the grips on you will see very little color, which is what I'm looking for, just give a touch of blue
El lock ring de cassette tambien es azul...no se ve, lo tapa la enorme drop trasera 🤣

I said I wasn't going to polish the fork, just leave it completely functional internally. I think I lied. I also said the same thing about Atac power and I also lied. I have polished both pieces and placed the corresponding or missing stickers.
This weekend I disassembled the shift grips to clean the dried grease that left an ugly color. It took several hours, but they are now clean and operational.

I had to reface the head tube 3 mm. to be able to place the Onza Mongo head set without problems.
I don't have the tool, but a shop let me use theirs. I had it new, it had barely been used in these years. It was a fun Saturday, it had been a long time since I had performed this operation, but it was essential for the proper establishment of the head set and its correct functioning.

Lovingly stored in a box for 30 years: a pair of beautiful blue Avid tri-aligns. This was their project.

And since everything comes in blue, I found a new Vetta Jet in that color.

And since I'm not going to make it from a catalog, I think that an Atac that has been in a forgotten box for many years is a good complement to the fork
I don't think I'll polish it, just deep clean it and replace the rusty screws. Simple and economical.
The decals are good on one side, on the other a little worse but complete and I hesitate to change them or respect the original. Honestly I like to respect the original whenever possible.
In the end, I polished it and put on new stickers. It was much more scratched than it looked, and it was annoying to look at.
I decided to use the seatpost that came with the frame; it's a Ritchey, which I think suits it well. Of course, it also needs some work; it's very scratched.

Now all that was left was to find the right cranks. A pair of White Industries cranks appeared without looking for them; they just needed some dedication.
A Sachs Quartz derailleur and a Race Face taperlock that I'd also had in storage for too long, this time in steel.

Well, the poor thing has been waiting too long to be built.
That's going to change this weekend.
We've already got the final touches: Salsa skewers (they're one of my favorites, along with Hope), a Tacx bottle cage (made of tubular aluminum, as light as it is delicate), very late '90s.
And finally, some Crankbrothers pedals: I was really eager to try them out, so I decided to buy some SL pedals to see how they work.

Diggin' the blue accents.
The truth is, back in the '90s, they were my favorite anodized finish, and I had several bikes with blue accessories. The Avid Tri-Align comes from that era.
I also took advantage of the color to request a specific color for the decals that would match the blue of the saddle, brakes, etc.
Akos Szilvassy, as always, did a great job with the decals, and although he suggested the original color, I preferred to choose Pantone 285C, which I liked better.

And I installed a Vetta odometer, a C-15.
Why? Well, I don't usually install a speedometer on my bikes except in special situations (my Marin Team Marin, for example). They take away from the "visual cleanliness" of the handlebars. But even though I always use a Cateye, this Vetta seemed the prettiest of them all, and in that color, it was just too perfect for this bike.
It was a "sign" that I had to install it. I also changed the battery and... IT WORKED!!!! It's a survivor. IMG_3828.webp IMG_3829.webp IMG_3833.webp IMG_3837.webp IMG_3832.webp IMG_3834.webp
