    Mystery Frame

2001 marin? Looks a bit like the triangular tubing they had around then.

Wanted 18"/medium frame/bike for someone 5'8" and advice

Given you've ridden it for 5 years, clearly have some attachment to your existing bike and only beginning to get back problems...I wonder if it would be worth investing in tweaking the set up eg riser bars and/or a shorter stem.

Happy Blooming Christmas. Thats the shoping done .

Definitely type 2 fun. There were amazing elements eg cycling and seeing El Jem in the distance, camels in real life, touching the edge of the Sahara, staying at Hotel Sidi Driss (Luke's homestead in Star Wars), camped in some amazing places and encountered friendly locals. But we also caught...

Happy Blooming Christmas. Thats the shoping done .

I think it's partly an act. Past the age of 12, the default male state is that it's not cool to be into Christmas even if you are. I like the idea of it ie happy to watch movies, tv specials etc of other people enjoying Christmas, don't really feel the urge to do it myself (although will...

    What a bargain...whoops!

Nice catch. Shimano's hub gears are pretty sweet.

    Raising the Bar... WAY up

Looking at your current set up, there is plenty of scope to get those handle bars higher with a different setup/bike. BMX bars on a slightly undersized 26r MTB are a lot of fun, and will get hands up higher and potentially farther back. Recumbents are also fun, but hard work on hilly areas.

£2k full suss Ebike. New. Good spec

Looks like a lot of bike for the money

    Patina. Show some!

The faux patina looks like what it is to me. Not personally appealing. I don't mind new or scratched/bit rusted/tatty providing it has structural integrity. Draw the line at dents. What I don't like is a brand new bike arriving scratched in the post. Similarly, if your bike is tatty, say so...

Sorry I was slow in the singletrack - my bike just caught fire…

For me, it just says that it's the scumbag that's the issue, not the vehicle. They would still be making a nuisance of themselves - even if they were on a push bike or a skateboard.

Sorry I was slow in the singletrack - my bike just caught fire…

The police are simply being reasonable and turning a blind eye. If there's ever a crackdown (at the behest of some local politician no doubt), ask your son to skip using the scooter for day or so. The police won't be able to be cool about it, and son will likely get swept up in it all. I got...

Sorry I was slow in the singletrack - my bike just caught fire…

An MTB is by and large a plaything. Almost no-one needs one to get get around. Ditto many road bikes. As are I suspect most of the bikes posted on this forum. No-one needs to restore a bike from 30+ years ago with NOS boutique parts etc - a subset of which are essentially unrideable due to...

Sorry I was slow in the singletrack - my bike just caught fire…

Legislation already exists. These "upgraded" ebikes are illegal. It's the policing which is the issue. Ditto e-scooters. Although, it is somewhat confusing why these things can be freely sold if they are illegal to ride. That is probably part of the appeal to the younger demographic - a cheap...

Sorry I was slow in the singletrack - my bike just caught fire…

It's not clear if this is just the opening piece of compensation prior to a fix/fuller refund being offered. All bikes will eventually die, some quicker than others. Ebikes have their use cases, but the proliferation of standards, black box nature of the expensive motors, unproven technology...
