Oscar Egg build now underway

Yes, lacqured after the decals - looks black but when the sun shines on it it's purple (so most of the time in this country it'll look black ;).

All together now and been been for a short ride today.
Rides very well and works as it should but the brakes are a bit squidgy and underpowered, I think the problem is the outer cables compressing so they may have to go. The 5 speed Sturmey Archer hub is a delight to use.
Colour's a bit strange - looks black until the sun shines on it or using camera flash - then it's purple.
Lug lining by Martin who's local to me on Notts/Derbys border, I can supply his contact details if required.
Have a look at the pics and let me know what you think, I've built it for riding so it's not authentic or original but I've tried to keep a French flavour to it.

Wow, fantastic work. Love the color, very subtle and sophisticated. Interesting to see such thin, almost "pencil" chainstays on a French bike from that period. I had thought that was mostly a feature of UK bikes.

Thanks for the positive responses guys!
Just got to sort the brakes, it looks like the problem is the new pads are not meeting the braking surfaces of the rims fully flat.
The Weinmann rims are not parallel braking surfaces so the pads either need sanding a bit to match the angle or using for a while to bed in completely.
Either way it's not a major issue. If the rain would hold off a bit I'd get a few miles in on it.
