My Specialized Hardrock (1988)

Hello all. I'm new here. Here's a picture of a Specialized Hardrock that I picked up in Cornwall in 2019. I absolutely love it as a shop bike. Although I'm a novice, I'd like to restore it or update it. I'd actually like to try putting some drop handle bars with shifters (if I could find something to work with a 6 speed cassette). Anyways, I think it's very pretty. I hope you like it.

Those are both great looking bikes.

Here's my 1988 Hardrock, which started life green/teal but was powdercoated red with new decals. Almost original spec', though many parts came from another 1988 donor bike (which is still in use in the family, but with a more eclectic range of components). https://www.retrobike.co.uk/threads/1988-specialized-hardrock.405703/

@sirtimf, drop bars with bar end shifters set in friction mode should work with almost any gearing combination. If original, I believe the Specialized stem/bars are 26mm diameter. I think drops on a Hardrock would work well as it feels like it has quite a short top tube for the frame size.

That's a beauty. Thanks for the tip about the drops, I'm still undecided but bar end shifters sound good. You got the decals from Gil? Is this the chap?:

Yes, that's right. He's done other decals for me too. Always been helpful and reasonably priced.
