'Dr' Steve Peat has somehow found time to plan what is sure to be a mouth-watering 4th annual Wharncliffe Weekender, despite his hectic racing schedule and his new found profession, delivering babies! Little did Sheffield University know last year that the honorary doctorate awarded in 2008 was to pre-empt the delivery of son number 2. All this when the UCI Downhill World Cup is now in full swing with Steve having a blistering start and leading the points series with 2 wins and a podium in the 3 rounds so far. His win in Andorra has now established the Sheffield born rider as the most successful of all time with 17 World Cup wins. He's somehow finding time for the return of the ever popular event ...... Yes, the annual peaks ride is back! (well, two years running now ;)) Expertly organised by our very own MrK, this is more than just a meet! A great ride, unofficial awards, pub quiz , random detours and extreme banter will all feature. More details can be found in the discussion thread ongoing here.. All welcome, ability/fitness not important (as you will see) - look forward to seeing you there!
Thats right, the Autumn meet is upon us.. Tomorrow morning an intrepid gang/gaggle/group (what is the collective term for RetroBikers ??) will set off from hayfield for a merry old jaunt across the peaks.. expect mechanical failure, awesome annodising, and more stories of how we could all have been contenders !! See y'all there... if I'm not still stuck on the M25 at Heathrow....

The scene was set, the time was finally upon us, after nearly 4 months of pulsating expectation the day had arrived for the RetroBike Spring Meet 07. The previous months of secret training, the mass accumulation of parts from ‘the BAY’, the strict calorie control diet to ensure the retro Lycra did not cut off vital air supplies was over…..it was time to break out the GT-85, fill the not so retro camelbak and head to the rendez-vous in the...
April the 2nd saw fifteen hardy souls brave the rain to meet up at Cannock Chase in the Midlands, UK. Plenty of fine retro kit was on display including 2 Kleins, 3 Fats, a Yeti, Ibis, Pace and Roberts. Gump and Sylvain The morning saw the large group tackle the 8 mile 'Follow the Dog' trail. The inevitable mechanicals and mixture of skill and fitness levels meant this was a leisurely loop. Following a lunch taken sheltered in swinnertons bikes the remenants of the group set out for an afternoon session. Two early mechanical casualties saw the group drop to 8 riders. Gump led the afternoon ride round some of the Chase's less well known but equally good trails. All in all a good day was had by all (I hope!). More pictures can be...
