Zero BBs

I've just got hold of this Zero BB and was wondering if, and how, the bearings can be changed. Anyone know? They're OK now as the BB has never been used, but I just want to know before it becomes an issue.

Yes they can but they're a bugger to get out.

Because of the tapered housing, the bearings are smaller than usual, and wear out quicker. And because of the tapered housing, the cups tighten very securely - tighter than the tool will loosen if the cups seize. Removing mine from my Dave Yates involved cutting tools, damage to the BB shell and about 10 hours of work.

If I were you, I'd display but never fit it.

why not ride it until it is stuffed, clean it then display it. At least you'll get some use out of it...

As the others said.

I use to work for Zero and you need a special tool to mount the centre of the BB in to remove and install the bearings with a bearing press. I suppose you could use the bb cup as a rest but it'd probably get mashed up.

Can I ask where you got it from I haven't seen one in ages?

Also could I possibly trouble you for the dimensions of the cups so I can get some made?

I have a BB you see but don't have any cups.

Finally if you ever want to sell, I'm your man.

I got this from my boss at work. He's worked in the cycle trade for around 25 years, give or take, and is a bit of a hoarder. He used to buy stuff to upgrade his bikes, but would then take ages getting round to fitting stuff and either forgetting he had something, or buying something else!

off topic but got my hands on some zero q/r's tonight and man are they light and pretty cool too, cant remember them from BITD but looks like some nice work

Wow that's amazing, I have sent a pm.

If anyone should however find some cups (they were sold seperately) please let me know.

There were some on ebay once and I just didn't have the money and thought no one else would be after them. 1 month later the BIN was used and they dissappered.

I am always after anything Zero, so please let me know if you ever have anything!!!
