Z1 Bomber service question

I'm servicing a set of 1997 Z1 BAM Bomber forks (ebay item). I've dug out the old seals, with help from Mr Dremmel. The manual refers to a washer between the oil seal and the bushing i.e. under the seal. It is referred to as the upper washer in the exploded diagram. It is missing from my fork. Darn. Someone's been in there before :(
Questions:
1. Are they available? I've done a wee google but no luck finding one for sale.
2. Maybe I can get/make something to fit. Diamater must be ~40mm OD. Anybody know the other dimensions, especially thickness?
4. What material should it be?
All help gratefully received.
cheers

You should be able to get hold of most old Bomber spares . I managed to get a complete stanchion for one that was wrecked. Mind you that was around three years ago... I think Windwave might be the importer still. Check out their website to see what's available. Or scour evilbay for some knackered forks and crib what you want/need from them. I did this when i bust the crown on my Z1's. I bought some Z5's or whatever and just used the crown from them. Most Marzocchi bits from around then are more or less interchangeable. One final option is that if you have a 'Bicycle Workshop' anywhere near you that hoards old stuff (like we have here in Bristol), you might be able to get the spares you need from them for the cost of a packet of biscuits.

Having just had my Z2's apart, the washer is approx 1mm thick and only a couple of mm bigger on inside diameter than the stanchion.

Thanks guys. I've emailed Windwave and we'll see what happens.
gtRTSdh - is it an aluminium washer or a plastic one? Might be able to cobble something together if Windwave fail, at least until I find an old set of forks to cannibalise.

Don't bother with Windwave - contact UKBikeStore - their website lists LOADS of Marzocchi spares and they are next to Windwave anyway - if they don't have it listed they just pop round and ask them!!

32mm washer:

http://www.ukbikestore.co.uk/product/14 ... 22403.html
(Marzocchi 32mm washer 522403, Out Dia: 40.00mm, ID: 32.5mm, Thickness: 0.86mm)

They don't have 30mm listed at the moment if thats what you need. If you need a washer that is 40mm OD then the above is ok, but that's for a 32mm stantion fork not a 30mm which you seem to have.

Incidentally there wasn't a Z1 Bam in 1997, they arrived in 1998.

Manual is in here for 1998 forks:

Thanks again guys, seems like ukbikestore are the guys. No reply from Windwave. Yeh Rob, 300 mm stanchions but if I can't get the part I'm sure I can sort something to do the job. I'm thinking it must act mainly as a spacer anyway. I can't think it offers any lateral support as you wouldn't want metal against the moving part of the stanchion. I'll maybe just give the 32mm job a go.

Re the year - I looked again at the fork legs and one is stamped 97 and one 98. Half a BAM? Possibly a molested half a BAM? The joys of ebay eh?
Thanks again.

Actually 97 stamp implies a 1998 model and 98 stamp a 1999 model, apparently made the year before.
Which is of course often the case for model years (as they run different to real years, they are more like an academic year).

BUT what I don't get is why people don't say '98 could be 1998 or 1999 as would normally be the case if you didn't know what month it was manufactured in.

Anyway, the spacer keeps and protects the bushing by holding it down and keeping the main seal a solid seat. It is needed else the main seal and/or bushing would flap around a bit.

It part number is probably 522288 and called the Upper Washer

Hmmm. Fair point re support for the seal. I guess a 2mm oversize ID might allow a wee bit of 'flap' from the unsupported inner edge of the seal. I'll seek out the right bit before attempting a bodge.
Great forum guys. Really helps to talk these things through - the missus is surprisingly practical but on this she'd have glazed over long before now. Just as I do with Stricty Come Dancing.
