Your 'Retro' cut-off year

At first I was going to say with the beginnig of suspension for the masses, but then, I think I will revise my opinion and say:

When the last Plexus was produced.

Really feeling the love of the '91 Karakoram.. to the point where I may not bother with the '97 Zaskar - getting like Ford Escorts round here anyway

Not a fair comparison...there's hardly any Ford Escorts left on the road where I live but near all the 97 Zaskars are still going strong. :D

83-95 were the years I was most active and doing bikes for a living. This past year 93's about the cut-off for me too but lately most of my projects have been 87-90 range.

I think 1998, as that's when I think things subtley shifted in a way I cannot really complain. Although, for Konas, it was when they changed the font into the "trendy" one.

they did really lose there mojo with there graphics i think.....in the middle years....did walt dysney.....design the graphics....?????????

I still like the Jungle stuff (although at the time I preferred the Block graphics). Each to their own...

Personally I like stuff up to around 98. Late compared to most round here, but there were still reasonable numbers of steel frames around, and plenty of brands still had a bit of originality about them. That said I started MTBing around the heady years of 93, so although the bikes worked better by 98, I did miss all the ano CNC and weight reducing lunacy...

Hmmm! I'd say retro is what you consider the best riding/memory of your youth. For me its 1990 onwards as i'm still riding. Surely its about the bikes & kit we wanted as young enthusiasts and that is dictated by how old you are? Retro for my 4yr old son could be a Scott Spark? As it is, its his Mini Burner

Maybe Land Rover discovery or M3 BMW would have been better comparisons (locally, the 'Disco' has to be the commonest vehicle on the road)..

But by 'round here' I meant RB.. ;)
