Used to run Smoke/Dart combo until I found my favourite ever rear tyre, the Specialized More Extreme. Big tread blocks and soft compound, it was brilliant on my local trails on the rear with a Panaracer Dart on the front. I was gutted when they stopped making it.

After that I moved to Panaracer Fire XC - gotta be one of the best all round off-road tyres ever made. Don't know when they were first introduced though?

Currently running Charge Splashbacks on my retro ride, just because they're the only skinwall tyres I could find

Smoke Dart combo is good and I have used Smokes front and rear and that was a good if not draggy combo! Panaracer Cinders for all round good use and more modern tyres (29ers) Schwalbe Hans Dampf front and Nobby Nic rear...depends on the conditions...for muddy quagmires Maxxis Beavers or Bonty MudX...
