Youngs racer - any info about it would be great

Retro Newbie
Bought this bike unseen, originally bought it just for the wheels as needed a set for my bike as rear is finished, but, when I saw it I thought there is something to this bike and it’s too good to tear apart. As pics, Campagnolo cranks, hubs, Cinelli giro d’italia bars, shimano gearing. The bike has 1919 stamped on bb and has, I think, gme stamped on the rear dropouts. Will sell it as think someone will really appreciate this bike and it has everything to be a base for a beautiful ride. Would like to know more about it, Cheers.

possible link to Gillott. I've just looked at the classic lightweights website to refresh my memory but the site has been given a makeover and doesn't appear as informative as it once was

Here's the old Youngs page on classiclightweights with a bit of history: http://web.archive.org/web/20200105...htweights.co.uk/builders/youngs-builders.html

That frame looks early to mid 1980s to me. The frame and fork don't look particularly high end, but Youngs were known to build good quality bikes. It looks like it has become a bit of a bitsa over the years due to the mix of Campag, Shimano, Cinelli and GB all from different eras. The Shimano parts with the funny squiggle are Golden Arrow, which is quite sought-after.

Probably would have been bought in the shop on Lee High Road which is now closed, but they still exist as a bike shop in West Wickham: http://www.youngs-cycles.co.uk/

I'm tempted to call dibs if you're thinking of selling on the frame and forks. Youngs was a local bike shop when I was a lad and that looks like my size!

Thanks for the info, nice to get knowledgeable on old parts and think you’re right about the mixture of parts. Just measured from the centre of the bb to the top of the seat post and it’s 57/58cm.
