(Yet) another early 2Ks Kona Stuff

All done . . . for now ;) and loving the ride.

Got a few plans - I'm a Hope fangirl so papadirt can have his Hayes back once funds allow 💸 - no rush to fit a front brake though. My magic gear ratio plan didn't work (mainly because I'm reluctant to ditch that lovely orange ring) so I'm using an old cheap-ass mech as a tensioner for now - running 32/14 which feels spot on (32/15 could possibly work with a half link but may be a little low). A few problems to iron out as my rear cog is too thick for a 9 speed chain and my singlespeed chain is skipping a little on the jockey wheels (although it fits the old 5 speed mech fine). The paper/vinyl decals can stay until they wear out.

Yes, it's tiny ☺️

Love it! And jump bikes should be teeny tiny ( in my opinion 😂😂)

My partner is planning a slopestyle esque build in the far future of her XS Kona Lisa 120 FS frame .. she has no idea how she used to ride a bike so smol now she’s on modern bikes 🤭

A little update . . .

Been riding loads and loving it. The chain skipping continued even with a new chain so I ditched the inner mech cage and fitted a single roller instead of the jockey wheels - job done . . . but that cheap-ass rear mech it was butt ugly so bought a lightweight Chinese tensioner to fettle along with a little Hope bling (blue rear skewer) ✨ The tensioner is designed to be fitted over a bolt-up axle but I managed to find a suitable bolt to use the mech hanger. To be honest it's barely needed as there is very little chain slack in 32/14.

Still running just the one brake - now a lovely original Hope Mini (cheers @raidan73 👍) with 140mm rotor, so papadirt can have his Hayes back. Still hanging onto his cranks for now, although 175s are a little long with the already low BB height running 24" wheels on a 26" frame.

Oh that brake install is neat! Love the build.

I might look silly but what's the denim for on the brake to handle bar area?

Cheers! 👍

The denim is just something I've always done (as I'm a short-ass and have to cut all my jeans down) . . . studded band one side of the bars and denim offcut on the other - crazy old woman 😅

And . . . we're done! New cheap-ass Chinese cranks arrived this morning, but hey you could lose yourself in that blue ☺️ Just been for a shakedown ride and nothing fell off - found some cool new local trails too - bonus! Papadirt can have his bits back now.

Vinyl coated paper decals are holding up just fine so my originals can stay under wraps for now and I'm still happy running just the one brake (although there is one techy bit of downhill on my route that is (shall we say) a bit of challenge for my old bones 😅
