Yesterday's street find

Dumped by the git who plnched it maybe? What a find!

It was dusty, had flat tyres and the chain was off and rusted into a mangled mess - and was next to a load of other crap that looked like it had come out of a shed. If it was stolen, it was probably a very long time ago...

OK whoever had this before didn't have a scooby doo about setting up gears. Rather than cut the rear inner cable, it is wrapped around the seat stay. And the rear mech cable anchor bolt? It's upside down (the allen key head is on the inside of the mech). I can't imagine someone thought they were doing it right, while trying to feed their allen key inside the rear mech. Perhaps some early attempt at being more aero. Strangely enough the weird ghost shifting stopped after I sorted all of this.

I'm not either, but finding something one of that quality might give me a little nudge in the direction... Nice way to dip your toe in the water, and if you don't like it, there's some money to be made

Yeah, I'll have a little play with it to see if I can turn it into something more akin to my tastes and if not, hoof it onto someone more deserving. I've replaced the pedals with an old set of XT ones. I dug out a chain from my stash of new ones - and I think that will be the next replacement.

Need to do something about the gears too. I live on a hill with steep bits. Going down is great, up not so much 🤣 Seat post also stuck which would be good to unstick, but more or less at the right height for me.

You can put a 38T inner ring on those cranks and the rear mech will take a cassette with a 28. It *might* clear a 30 or 32 but no guarantees.
