XTR M960 BB questions...

So I need to replace my BB, and the one fitted is not the original, so I have two questions after lots and lots of online research.

1. What is the model number of the correct BB for this groupset? The bike is all M960 and M965 so in a way I'd like to replace with an original, but wow, that's been hard to research!

2. Would a modern day XT level MT800 BB be perfectly suitable? Got to be pretty good quality and CRC have them for like £13!

I believe all the HTII style will be fine, newer versions have improved bearing/seals but also use a smaller outer cup.

It’s weird the B.B. is like spares numbers rather than actual model numbers, as though it was a component part of the cranks

It probably was, even today's are all part numbers and have no code and they are not even mentioned they are available as a while unit.
But they wear out and I guess they must be as we can see them sold all over the place.


I think it was just an XT LX Home bottom bracket iirc, never used them myself as I didn't join HTII and the modern world till 2010.

Looking at CRC the Bb52 (sm-bb52) is the style of the older 760/770 etc bottom brackets.

Everything else has the newer cup design it seems.
