XTR M952 Short Cage - Maximum Rear tooth capacity

What about the shift cable setup? Internal routing can flap around inside the frame losing some motion. If you put tension on the cable does any flex housing move around anywhere? I started sorting this out on brakes, then started doing my shifters too. Compressionless housings?

I've just stuck an M739 SGS on my 9 speed setup - 11-34 at the back and 24/36/46 at the front

even with the SGS cage its a bit too much capacity wise (RD really stretched out on big/big and jockey wheels still clattering into each other on small/small) - thats also 45T total and about 7T over spec for the RD (38T capacity)

This is M960 with 11-40t GS in top gear. Lots of range left

This is in low gear 40t. Longer B screw, and not too short on the chain.

I used the yellow zip tie to pull the chain tighter, as if 1 link shorter. The cage hits the cog. SS cages don't have that hump on them.
On the chain stay you can see the automotive hydraulic line where it meets the compessionless housing. It runs inside the downtube all the way up to the head tube for accurate shifting.

There are 2 ,11-40t 8 speed cassettes I've used. Sunrace was the first and they're a little over $20. They work just fine. basic cogs and spacers.
This one is a Shimano HG400-8. The 2 large cogs are riveted to a spider, and the gear splits are more even, about $30. I don't go 9 speed because I can only find Rapid Rise Revoshifters in 8 speed (7 is pretty common).
