Retro Newbie
Hi everyone, I'm selling my heavily upgraded vintage Dawes Ambassador. I built this as a summer project a few years back - it was a full conversion to 700c wheels/STI shifters/dual pivot brakes from the original setup (see final pic for the bike as I originally bought it in 2019). The only parts remaining from before are the stem, mudguards, and the cable guide under the bottom bracket. Headset was serviced about a year ago. 531 fork + Dawes Supertube for the actual frame.
I’ve done 2x RideLondons on this since the build and put about 2000km on it, it’s a great bike and there’s loads of life left in all the components/wheels etc. Am only selling as I just don’t have space for it any more unfortunately
Would be great for touring where the position isn’t too aggressive vs normal road bikes and it’s got the mudguards. Also imho it looks gorgeous! It is a big frame so I would say suitable for people say 185cm and up, I’m 194cm so you could have the stem/saddle lower than I do.
Steel frame is in great shape apart from a few small paint chips in places. I think the bike is approx 11.5kg which isn’t too bad considering it's an enormous frame. Claris 2x7 groupset, Shimano R500 wheels, 28c Conti GP5000 tyres. The Shimano SPD-MTB pedals/pump/bottle cages can also be included in the sale.
Hoping to sell this on to someone who will appreciate it as much as I have. It’s got a a few odd scratches and paint chips but nothing serious, the bike has loads of life left in it. The bike is the final form of this post I made on Retrobike a few years back which also includes most of the parts list (although I've made a few changes since then).
£350, collection from somewhere in East London preferred (I live in E15 Stratford). Any questions let me know!
