xc pro hub service.

i was out on my rc100 last week and the back end felt very dodgy.
when i got home i took the rear wheel off to check.
and i noticed some play in the rear axle,
i'm thinking the bearings will need checking but i need to remove the
cassette & free hub. i know i need another chainwhip tool.
but i need to know how to remove the free hub to check the rest of the bearings.
has anyone had any experience with this hub before, or should i just leave it with my lbs to do it ?

If you have side to side play in the wheel then it's not in the freehub, only the hub bearings. Pull the cassete and overhaul the hub bearings or if your hubs are in fact XC Pro then inject grease into the hub through the Grease Guard ports, adjust the bearings and you are done! The new grease you inject should purge most of the old grease.

As I googled it.
Looks like once cassette and axle is off the hub,then there should be bolt holding freehub to the hub body,similar as Shimano which use allen key.

Take axle off. I think they're 13mm
Have a clean around, but try nipping them up a bit, if they are the cartridge type (6001 RS inner seal removed) then you actually need them a lot looser than you think and it's very easy to over tighten them. Test and tighten under load.

But they just tap out and fit supporting both races.

If you do need to take the freehub body out, it's just the same setup as shimano but from the other side.

The biggest pain is getting a cassette actually f the damn things.

To be honest I replaced my front ones with double sealed bearings as they easy to replace and you don't have loads of grease sat in the axle.
