Ceramics are awesome mate! Did 45mph downhill on the road bike yesterday and feared for my life braking on my non-ceramic Mavic Open-Pros. Makes a huge difference. The ceramic deals with the heat generated by prolonged braking so much better too, especially for the heavier rider!

Will do some pics tonight. Which areas would you like to see most? I will do close ups of the marks on the rims, the XTR hubs and overall wheels. Anything else you need to see?

You can get abrasive and semi-abrasive/dual compound blocks for canti's, WTB did them and others too I'm sure? Don't know if Shimano did them for cantis like they did with the V-brake ceramic specific pads?

You can use normal compounds, but they don't last as long as harder ceramic spec compounds. I found that using normal compounds gives really excellent stopping power, and they lasted very well in the dry, but if you use them a lot in the wet then the pads will wear pretty quickly.

Ah cool - I was undr the impression I had to use special ceramic pads thats all.

Nah, the ceramic spec ones just last longer and "resurface" the ceramic surface better (ie they are slightly abrasive).

I find more I get power with just normal softer (thus grippier) pads. Never got any squeels on ceramic rims either which is a bonus.
