WTD: Where I can find decent 27" rims?

Hi all,

I am after a set of 27" rims 36H for a restoration project.

Old frame now fully equipped with a Shimano Arrow groupset.

Modern 700c wheels look 'too small' and also cannot use the calipers just for few mm. Hope that the extra 4mm (each side) provided by a 27" rim will make possible to use them.

There are plenty of threads asking the same question on bike forums.

The best candidate so far is the Sunn CR-18 27". The Velocity Synergy in 27" is also a good option.

Problem is, however, that I can only find these rims in US online stores.

I know that SJS has some 27" rims but unfortunately only in 32 holes.

Any UK-based bike shop where I can source decent 27" rims?

Or if you have a spare set in good condition, send me email.

Many thanks for all your help.

PD: there are really cheap but low quality 27" alu rims in ebay germany but looking for a better quality rim

I was in a similar position to you earlier this year and was fortunate enough to get a pair of nos Mavic 27" rims from Hilary Stone over at the London fixed-gear and single-speed forum.

You'll probably have to register to reply to his posts or be able to pm him.

Good luck with your search.

I have got a pair of rims in the shed.They will take 27 11/4 or 27 11/8 tyres but not narrower 27 x1.I am going down later will get pics.jm.

Cheers for the replies so far.

@jm

I think a 27" x 1 1/8 tyre like the Conti UltraSport should be fine.

Now I have to check if the brake calipers do admit such 'relatively' wide tyre. (equivalent to standard 28 width)

No problems with frame as it has massive clearances.

If you can send me pics to this email address, it will be great:

@TheElectronKid

Thanks for the tip. I bought from Hilary Stone in the past. If nothing comes up, I might send him a PM
