WTD: Shimano Dura-Ace - 8spd cassette - 12-25 ratio

Mike

There was one cross-over year, the year before 7401 STI was introduced in 1990, where 8-speed was available with down-tube shifters as an 8-speed Uniglide based system in 1989 only. This used a Uniglide hub, where the smallest cog screwed onto the outer part of the hub, much like an old style freewheel construction.

Hyperglide has a full set off splined cogs (7 speed from 1989 onwards in the MTB groupsets, and 8 speed in road groupsets from 1990 onwards), and a lockring that threads into the inner part of the rear hub to secure them. I'm after an 8 speed HYPERGLIDE cassette - probably should have made this clearer in the OP, but rather assumed the chances of someone coming forward with 8 speed Uniglide was too remote to worry about!

Ideally, I want an 12-25 Dura Ace Hyperglide 8 speed cassette. These have a matt/brushed silver appearance. However, I'd also consider one of the brighter silver standard Hyperglide cassettes (from the lower groupsets), just to have a genuine Shimano cassette on the back for shifting purposes. Someone sold me a shitebox Sunrace cassette last year (claiming it was Shimano because it came with a Shimano lockring that didn't match the rest of the cassette!). It does a job, but the shifting isn't as it should be....

I have an 8spd Dura-Ace 13-26 cassette in excellent condition. I do believe however that there are 2 types of 8 speed Dura-Ace cassette, this one uses the 13T cog to lock the cassette rather than a lockring.

This are currently fitted to a wheel (pair) of 7402 hubs laced to Wolber TXprofile 20mm rims in excellent condition.

I am about to start splitting 2 Dura-Ace equipped bikes, nearly all 7402, some 7401 but also 7410 chainset etc.

Let me know if interested in Cassette, wheels or other parts.

Thanks Stuart, but this is a Uniglide cassette, which is only compatible with Uniglide hubs, of which there are very few indeed these days...

I need the more common Hyperglide cassette, which came in from 1990. Uniglide cassettes simply aren't compatible with Hyperglide freehubs.

Hi

I'd highly recommend a Sram 12-26. Well finished, light, certainly lighter than an HG50, work well with Shimano and at a fraction of the cost.
There's a PG850 on eBay for £16.95, new and with free postage. Don't be fooled by the price, they are good. Just got one for my Bianchi after a recent trip to Wales!
You may thank yourself for that extra tooth! ;)
Worth a look

Thanks Mike

Am actually running a Sunrace cassette in the interim. This is a long-term search that is proving rather fruitless!
