How come such 'elitist' parts, if they were so good, did not continue in production or be copied/improved on by others?

^ ....usually when products are described as 'probably the most rare and sought after headset.... and the best ever made' and then folk say 'all the cool kids have got one'... The finishing school in this particular case would appear to be Santa Barbara/Mill Valley.

Why is grease guard not a regular feature on modern componentry?
