I would be comfortable saying that this is the most perfect original Kona Hot in the world.

Perhaps he shouldn't be so comfortable with that statement, as it's missing the original cables and housing.

I tend not to trust anything ending in pedia, especially the bike one. Though, I would agree with you, as by 1995, I highly doubt it came with suntour thumb shifters. Gripshift was the marketing king by that point for shifters, no? Also, were HOTs sold as frames only, to be assembled by the LBS per customer orders? Again, not sure, so the question mark?

My guess is that is was ordered stock but had the shifters replaced.
That would happen all the time at the shop I worked at.
Some people did not like Grip Shift nor did they like Rapid Fire so we would replace the shifters during the build.
Most of the time the customer did not want the originals so someone in the shop would get them.

All too few Hot colour schemes live up to the name, but this one is hot I think.
