Would site owners ever consider reform the categories?

The posts linked above explain why the date is set as it is, it is pretty simple to grasp and cant change, as it is in the past now. A yr2000 bike is not classed the same as a modern bike by any means, it is just that it does not come within the confines of the obvious retro cut-off point.

Yes, it is, though the site is for Retro bikes from the golden era of Mountain biking, which is generally agreed to have started to fizzle out by the late '90's. The newer category is just an add-on really as most have other bikes too.

I get your point ibbz. But I can't see it getting much support on here as the long serving members have had to put up with a massive change recently with the new site and layout already. People don't like change- well, some don't.
I agree with you though, somewhere nearer 99-2000 would make more sense nowadays. But a non starter. If a new site was to be created then 2000 would be the ideal cut off point nowadays.
Thanks mate
I didn’t expect any support and I’m very happy with things as they are
I’m just curious to know what people think. As radical as changes were - changes since have been off the scale.

Very fair point which perfectly sums it up

Would be curious to see the 98 section having its own botm (again) with the ‘themes’ perhaps now relating to bikes with V/canti brakes and 26” wheels only. Thus leaving anything modern out of it altogether.

Obviously this site has just had a major renovation, but in a few years I reckon the 1997 cut off point will seem a bit arbitrary and it'll make more sense to make the classifications 26" wheels and post-26" - that's my two pennies worth.

As you've probably gathered, the cut-off or, pre defined section isn't just random time lining. More a much considered section based on the 'tech' and attitudes at the time.
If we keep bumping forward the date limit then, the older stuff will not get rarer, which is the ideal. Speak to anyone who wants to own a ur quattro.

So no, for me. There is a point to it all, not just a fear of progress.
