Work bikes

My scruffy yet perfectly formed Work bike. Stickers now fully removed-it's parked in Manchester on a daily basis-knackered, but just hanging on rockshox SID Xc..Merlin Malt 1

this is my work bike does about 70 miles a week ..kona explosif 1995..just been powder coated..went from gold and black to a "chrome laquered" finish

Been "out of business" for several months after a traffic accident(a motorcyclist -w no driving licence)hit me while I was crossing a main road(on a zebra-crossing)exactly 3 months before Xmas.It was a very nice,sunny and hot/dry late-summer day.Both me and my workbike(the Corratec 3003)suffered serious injuries.I've spent 6 weeks in hospital and was banned cycling by my neuro-surgeon collegaue for 3 months. :cry: It was a beautiful autumn here :x
Now I'm OK,but the rear of my bike(inclusive the rear wheel) was almost demolished,so I had to find/build a new "good-weather" workbike :roll:
Usable parts (Shimano 7-speed hub gear,crankset,front-wheel w.hub-generator) were sold,but I kept the AMP-F1 fork.
A week ago two fellow bikers gave me a birthday present:this 1997 Wheeler ZX frame exactly in my size. It is in very good shape -carries only minor cratches.
I've got so many bits in my shade,that this became a rapid and budget built -again

I'm glad to hear you're back on the bike, fdoc. I hope you aren't still suffering side effects from the accident.

I really like that Wheeler - I haven't seen very many in neck of the woods. I looks very clean and very fast too. I must ask, how do you find the performance Continental SportContact(s)?.

Thank you mate for the warm welcome! I'm OK,but due to a slight brain injury I have to take medicines(prevention of epilepsy)for a year -and my helmet became garbage... ;-)
Wheeler is a Swiss firm,they develop/engineer (founded 1972,producing bikes since 1975) in Switzerland,but the production site is Taiwan -and it's no problem at all. I like the name -I think it's witty-
and this shade of blue is one of my favourite colour. As you can see,this bike became a single-speed,the ratio is 42/16. My county/town is plain,so this is enough even for speedy local etaps.This is my second SportContact tire on bicycle. I dare to recommend it,is optimal for solid and smooth road surfaces and quite puncture-safe.

Glad to hear you're on the mend, must be nice to get back aboard the bike, new helmet and all .

I'm not explicitly familiar with Wheeler, so thank you for the background information. I've seen a number of their high-end older Titanium models floating around the internet and they're spawned a desire to acquire a Wheeler, Ti or not. There's something clean and simplistic I like about 'em, not to mention their unusualness...well here in deepest, darkest Wales that is .

I suspected as much with the Continentals. My commute is rather a mixed bag of terrain, you see - it ranges from gritty and loose to glassy and smooth, so finding a tire that performs optimally across such varied terrain, whilst not inflicting a massive amount of rolling resistance, is proving very difficult indeed.

On miscellaneous terrain we use trekking "class" bikes,wheelsize 27" or 28" -so I have the most experience with such tires. MTB/ATB cycles comes only in hilly or sometimes in real mountain regions(the nearest Transsylvanian-mountains are only 70 miles from here) -or in thick snow just over the fence ...
So my favourites are from German producer Swalbe(it means swallow)/these shots were made only a few minutes age in my garage/,and LandCruiser(just like by Toyota)is the best allrounder.
