Anyone recommend a good set of winter shoes to use with flats? Most of the skate/BMX ones I see are not suitable for the real world of rain/hail/mud etc.

My Shimano AM41s are pretty good - lace flap and wipe-clean uppers don't seem to let too much in. Obviously not the best for walking in mud in, or for truly horrific weather but as an allrounder they seem ok.

I just got a pair of these, http://www.bikeradar.com/gear/category/ ... oot-10540/

Cannot recommend them high enough. Completely waterproof, can walk all day in them (I do) and although SPD compatible I'm currently using them to ride with flat as haven't installed cleats.

I was looking at these yesterday! It's interesting that bikeradar's review of the MT91 is not anywhere near as good as the MT90. Same problem with the MW80 and MW81. Are Shimano going backwards with these winter boots? Or just cost cutting?

I have a pair of shimano w101, like these:

good for flats, uphill and downhill. downside being totally waterproof, feet can get sweaty but in cold conditions you make the choice:
dry and cold
or
wet and warm.

I have a feeling there is a goretex version which may help.

(yes, I know what was meant by flats before anyone posts!)

Dunno why people are suggesting cycling shoes if its for with flats.

Karrimor waterproof hiking boots from Sportsdirect would be my recommendation.

I have 2 pairs, one trainer/low top style and one set of boots. They're pretty much my go to shoes if I'm riding off road, whatever the time of year. I also wear them for commuting in everything other than biblically wet weather when I move to skate shoes and motorcycle over boots.

Re:

Been using MT91 for about 5 years now and love em , so much so I've just bought another pair whilst stocks are still around (being replaced by something nearly the same but different colours and the price has gone up ), don't know how they'd do with flats but clipped in and walking (we do hike a bikes as it's hilly ) they are great . Pair of short gaitors stops the crud going down the top .
