Ive been a bit busy to pick it up for the last week or so, I finally bought a hole cutting drill bit which should make a pretty good fit with the pillar thats part of the cage. Im still pondering over a few details before I jump much further, namely how to keep the parallelogram pivots small enough to allow the mechanism to move from side to side correctly whilst maintaining sufficient strength to operate when the spring tension is at its highest.
A drill press would make life a whole lot easier and ensure everything runs straight but unfortunately its all got to be done by eye which makes the whole thing far more challenging.
