Winter mud tyres...

Summer seems to have well and truely ended on my rides and I have stuck the mud tyre back on the rear. I am happy with the Schwalbe Hans Dampf on the front but did have a Nobby Nic on the rear over the brief "summer". The rear is now a Bonty Mud X tyre but whilst the grip is awesome it does drag a lot compared to the Nobby Nic so I have been considering other options:

- Specialized Storm
- Maxxis Beaver
- Conti Mud King

Anyone have any experience of the above or any other suggestions for a rear mud/wet tyre...what about another Hans Dampf?

Geax Barro Mud? Maybe a little skinny for you at 26x1.7, but good in the mud at least for xc-ish stuff, provided you have 26" rims! Also dirt (mud) cheap from On-One bikes at the moment.

Re:

Panaracer Trailraker are awesome in the mud /winter my bikes never felt so good in the winter /designed in the uk for winter so good 1.95 i think i had nice thin to cut through rather than slide on

Re:

Sorry should have said this is for the 29er...have been using the Bonty Mud X for the last 2 winters whilst superb in the real slop...hard work on the drier sections. I'm trying to find something a bit more inbetween but err-ing on the wet mud side...

Just put a pair of chunky monkeys on mine. Also have honey badgers and beavers. They go in that order from proper to light mud.

I'll second that for 26ers

Have both 1.95 and 2.1s. Sound.
Be interested to hear about good 29er suggestions too

I have had the beavers in 26" and found them ok...not heard much of the monkey and badgers! Keep hearing really good things about the Spesh Storm tyres....

set up for winter: they really stop but rolling resistance is high. Think knobbly series land rover tyres. Similar noise too.
