Winter Hack Vs replacing worn components?

Doug

After 6 weeks of misery you would be fit enough! :D

As a time-poor grumpy middle-aged man, a singlespeed has been the best thing to improve my fitness in a decade.

You can see the outline of it on the map just under where it says Romsey Road :D
I could clear the tabletop as a 12 year old, i wouldn't attempt it now, gravity is a cruel mistress

Ha great I went round it on a Raleigh Grifter when I were a lad! In later years I used the track on Chestnut Ave in Eastleigh on many BMX...that sadly is all grown over and you can only just about make the track out...

its a no win situation - mud will wear XTR just as fast as other groupset (probably)

I doubt you will notice a huge difference dropping down to SLX - be 1/4 the price. (a guess)

pads shouldn't be that much more expensive or are they the ones with fins (and are the XTR discs Al /steel sandwich - ICE?)

XTR cassette and chain rings will cost a packet to replace though.

components on the cheap hack would not be much more than SLX - plus you have the cost of the whole bike and loose the joys of riding the nice SC.

so it is the parts that get muddy you need to down grade: cassette, chain, chainset, jockey wheels on rear mech.

or buy a carbon frame marin.
