I have had a wanted ad up for ages trying to find a LX M565/566 28.6 Bottom pull front mech. As it's the last thing i need for my Stumpjumper its getting a little anoying :x
I can't use a top clamp model as the seat tube is ovalized at the bottom which is extremely pants as i have a NOS one.

Anyway, i have found the right mech in 31.8 and wondered it the Shimano mech shims would work. ie 31.8 to 28.6 as they only mention 34.9 to 28.6?

The shim idea will work as long as you find one in the right size. I've been looking for a shim myself recently and I'm sure I've seen some on ebay in the size you need. I might have one in my soares box, I need one to shim down to 31.8 from the larger size. I'll have a look later for you.

and if the reach/ cable pull of the mech matches the shifter.

Why didnt you go for the XT one I posted? It was for compact chainsets and the right type and everyfink!

EXTEEEEEEEEE!!!!!

Would have made you go fastererer!

I have found an M737 NOS one but i want an LX one which i have found but its 31.8 so was going to shim it if it's the right shim.

I've checked the shim I have and it's an older style one but for the larger band size I'm afraid.
