I just had a ‘91 Stumpjumper JIS head tube reamed & faced in order to fit a 1” Chris King headset. Took 5 minutes and £15 at a LBS.

It is badly galled up, needs cleaning up smooth.

It would benefit from a light sanding, and will obviously get the inside edges chamfered with a fine file, but the light in that photo is exaggerating the reaming marks.

It’s smooth enough in real life.

I'm not sure if it helps but my Prestige has a 1" ahead chris king headset fitted. I didn't fit it myself though.

I'm building a P7 as well so finding this thread rather interesting. Still trying to work out which headset to choose.
