Wiennmann levers & TTT bars

Schlapp

Retro Newbie
Been trying to sort a bike for L'Eroica this year. I have a Ishiwata 022 tubed Argos with fairly period running gear. However, was trying to fit old [NOS} wienmann brake levers onto my TTT bars - and I can't get them on. Are they different diameters? I knew this was the case with the raised bit for the stem [which here is also TTT] and would not fit cinelli but didn't realise the main part of the bar is the same.
Can anyone help me please?
Andrea

The 'bars are essentially standard - as you rightly say, the centre bulge on Cinelli (26.4mm) and 3TTT (26.0mm) varied, but the section onto which the brake levers clamp didn't.

However, Weinmann did make differently sized clamps for their more basic levers, because steel bars were smaller in section. Could this be what you've got? I can't really remember the sizes off the top of my head, but I've a feeling they may have been 22.2 for the smaller ones. I seem to remember that the size was stamped into the clamp...

Just like these in fact - www.flickr.com/photos/stronglight/29022 ... 7612250679 (Amazing what you can find on Flickr!)

Many thanks. You were right! I have 22mm. What a pain. Any idea where I might get the right bands please?

My old shop (Buckley-Saxon Cycles, Castle Hedingham) used to have quite a few of them in a drawer. Mind you, most were probably 22mm ones we'd had to swap! Our old stock was bought by Lifecycle in Bildeston when we closed, but I suspect that we probably just threw them away when we cleared the shop. Even if not, there's a good chance that Lifecycle will have done so subsequently. Might be worth phoning them (01449 744467), though even if they've got them they may not recognise them for what they are.

I suppose this forum is probably the best place to ask; someone might, for instance, have a knackered pair of levers with serviceable clips. Might be worth starting a specific "request" thread, I guess. They were once very common indeed, so there will be quite a few around - it's just a question of finding them...

Good luck, anyway.
