Why I call Halfords 'Halfrauds'

I was asked this in the Road forum, I think its pertinent to put it here:

Halfrauds - they overcharge on car batteries and auto bulbs when proper brand name stuff is way cheaper.

My local Halfrauds - ok, the Boardman bikes are good value but they piss me off when they have a so called sale and one of their horrific BSO's is labelled as 'was £429 - now £129' when it was clearly never at that price. Maybe ONE bike was price at £429 in ONE store for 1 hour to comply with the rules.

All big retailers do this, DFS, Sainsburys etc. As a ex buyer for a bigbox retailer I did it, and sale go up 25-50% when you do.

ya pays ya money ya takes ya choice! Most large retailers do it.

If people are daft enough to buy crap bikes from crap shops then let them. Trying to tell them to go to a specialist is a waste of time i'm affraid!
And i know cos when i worked for halfords and someone asked to buy a good bike i would surgest a good bike shop!!

In there the other day. A chappy wanted to buy a bike...
He was about 5'10" with shortish legs. The muppet recommended a 20" frame, and popped out the back to get one.
I told him, furtively, that that might be a bit big. He looked at me like I was an idiot... Payed his money, and left them to build it up.
Another bike left in the shed.

on the other hand , they have plenty of little bolts and nuts that most lbs dont stock and introduce cycling to the community as a whole .

when you start cycling or just need a bike to go out with kids on a sunday , you dont really want to spend a fortune on a bike .

and also they actually dont really know all that much about all that much!

My local Halfrauds is selling complete Van Nichols bikes for between £700 and £1000 depending on the spec 105 to Full Ultegra. You can't argue with bargainousness like that!
