Ok own up, who else just buys it if the price seems reasonable and then sticks it in a box.

I do. Sometimes it doesn't even have to be NOS.

Much of it I intend on using but there are a number of things I bought just because it was cheap.

 raises hand; same here.

You bought the Breezer, didn't you...

To me it depends on the bike, or rather the condition of the frame.

My last build had a bare alu frame that was scratched to a point where it can't be polished out, so second-hand parts made sense.
The next build will not have this problem and be a rare bike, so NOS (or new re-issue) all the way.

I use all my bikes so if any NOS parts are fitted they get used. No room for garage queens around here.

I have access to a lot of NOS stuff, so they're just parts to me. Unless I'm selling/bartering, then it makes a difference.

I use it unless its actually worth something then 'it' gets sold to fund more parts and keep the whole merrygoround a spinning.

Just bought some NOS tyres (amberwall too) and they are my favourite period tyre which can still cut it. I'm gonna ruin them by actually riding on them...

I buy NOS as spare parts for the running gear. Once I get a ride dialed in so that it works for me (with particular emphasis on the crank arms, chain set, bottom bracket, front and rear derailluers, chain, and cassette), I keep an inventory of spares to keep the ride in use.

I ride about 1.5 - 2K miles a year and I maintain NOS spares inventory so that I can maintain the ride to get another 5 years/10,000 miles out of it.
