Why cut a seatpost????

In the so far unsuccessful search for a seatpost, I see many that have been butchered, presumably in the name of weight

I guess some due to frame restrictions, but not I suspect the majority.

... and if it were ever to get stuck, its less length to have to struggle to free ...

I must admit i like to keep mine long, for several reasons, yes saving weight is a bonus, but having the maximum amount of contact with Seatpost and Frame helps distribute the weight and pressure across both frame and post. Also re-use and re-sale is better for a complete Seatpost. I have one thats cut but only for my Proflex and thats due to the seatpost stop preventing it from hitting the rear Shock/Swingarm Assembly.

Remember, a well lubed/greased post shouldnt get stuck ;)

yes indeed weight - why carry the unnecessary weight? Obviously if you have a rare genetic condition that causes your legs to mysterioulsy start growing again or you fit SPDs to your retro platform shoes, it is not an issue.

If you intend to sell the post that may be a problem as noone likes to buy a butchered post and it may be cut to short for taller prospectivbe buyers.

On my light builds, the posts are the lightest I can afford so I won't be replacing them hence cutting them is no problem.

RafeFace encourage you to do that on their Evlovre posts, they even state they will honour the warranty providing there is sufficient post inserted into the frame.

A RaceFace post yesterday (uncut)

Seatpost can sometimes hit the inside of the bottle cage mounts, preventing it from dropping all the way down

you sure about that? On my XP8 frame there is a small lump welded on on the inside of the seat tube at the bottom to stop any post from dropping too low. I had to shorten my post by about 5 mm as it was a tad too high.

Exactly, if i put the post in un-cut i would need to be about 9ft Tall to sit on it :D

Yeah.... Obviously.
Maybe I should highlighted specific words to provide suitable emphasis, such as one would in speach... or just used a winkey face ;)
