Im fitting a Hope BB to the bike for new cranks.

BB fitted as per instruction. Crank spacers fitted and crank installed.

Does not clear the front mech outer cage :(

Any thoughts ?.
Crank I took off is 2x10, and the new one is 2x10 also. Could it possibly be just a case of the different maker and i need to adjust the mech limit screw.

Oh I hate this new stuff. Too damn finickity. Spot on or nothing at all

Re:

Hmm

when I adjust a front mech it is located relative to the rings only. So the BB should not feature at all in the equation. two ideas:

If you have fitted rings from a different brand/model/year and not the rings made for the cranks you are using that can have a different thickness or chain line resulting in interference with the front mech cage.

And second try and rotate the front mech around the seat tube in small increments and see if there is a "clock position" with no interference.

Enjoy!!

Re:

By how much do the cranks and rings clear the stays? What is the new chainline like? I doubt its the BB more likely the different cranks.

Non drive side clears by only about 2mm and being ti (pronunciation optional) thats likely to collide with the stay :?
The other side is huge, about 12-14mm ,enough to get all your fingers in between the rings and the stay.
Chain line is 44.5mm (company data)

Hope give you 3 spacers. 2 for drive, 1 for non drive.

Ive since readjusted the cage to go further out, though ive not checked shifting or anything. The tight 2mm clearance on the non drive has me concerned, so ill see if i can balance it better to make the clearance the same.

OK.This si the problem - Spacers
The BB comes with 3. two for drive side ,one for non drive side.
The crank comes with 2 spacers
Both the BB and crank makers say ive to fit their spacers.
Well with all the spacers fitted theres no fking room(u can tell this is annoying  )

So. Some spacers cannot be fitted, but which.

Fitting vids are about useless. Even hopes is fit BB=- then do so on a 73 shell only and mention nothing about their supplied spacers or how they work with the crank spacers.
Do you remove Hopes spacers totally and just fit the cranks. OR vice versa. Or a mix :?

Ill try to do pics, though theyre not turning out too clear.

What size bb shell do you have? The spacers are generally to allow the same bb to be used with both shell sizes, so if a 68, more spacers are needed, if 73, less. If memory serves, if it's a 73 shell, yoy just need one spacer which I think goes on the drive side. Can't comment on the spacers you have with the cranks I'm afraid, my only experience in this area is with e:thirteen cranks and their proprietary Toblerone style axle which was a pain as using the instructions didn't fit, so I had to fiddle about with different combinations until it fitted.

68mm shell and the spacers for the crank are 4mm and 6.5mm.

I think ive got it now.
Its just the amount of axle sticking out im not sure of. It would be handy to know an approximate length.
Prior, in the first fitting the protruding bit was too short, so it only went in 1/2 the the arm, which i would think would eb wrong. Ive got it now so that most of it fits in but im not sure of the minimum amount you need before preloading the bearings and tightening the crank arm bolt.
I have eto say i reckon its close, or a couple of mm short, but is that normal :? I dont know.

Square taper ftw! Wait a minute is it JIS or ISO. Are the cranks Normal or Compact? Whats the spindle length Arrggg **head explodes**

The more things change the more they stay the same...
