Fact: UK brands never had a significant standing in the historical perspective with regards to what was "hot/boutique/the right stuff" - there was never a innovation or anything close to being unique (ref. FCC). UK brands are or have never been "up there" among the US brands - just face it, sorry! What the standing is on your reef domestically is another story. I guess this question 'Who is the U.K equivilent of FAT City Cycles?' is more about a strive for / a desire to achieve protectionism and self justification.

You don't own a UK made bike, you have only owned an early Dawes mtb, you don't own or even appear to like Fat Chance bikes, and you have demonstrated no actual knowledge on either subjects, you just trot out a bunch of bigoted rubbish about perceived market positions, none of which has any bearing on the original question asked by the OP and which you immediately rubbished.

I have a long association with Norway and the wonderful people from there. Not noted for their outward looking nature. Can't recall many products from Norway that have set the world alight. Nor much culturally. Norwegians are fantastic people though, on the whole.

basic Raleigh no, but if you take the special products division as an independent business unit maybe, granted they started at a lower level than fat city, but handmade steel bikes made with quality tubesets (Reynolds v true temper) that made up an off the peg range with some team specials and also frames available off the peg too. Sounds like the fat city business model to me.

Sadly I just don't see it. I mean it when I say I would love to be able to say RSP were sought after and desired in the same way here as Fat Chance in the U.S. but despite Raleighs best efforts (and they tried) it didn't even come close.

the Raleigh Only shops were dying on there Knees for so long, Sadly even as a foundation brand of UK cycling, the Old image is something that despite every attempt, they just couldn't it shake off.

This is the same to be said for Dawes in the MTB market and practically every other Old brand Name.

The Image was always the Problem. For the most part as much as it grieves me to say this.........They just weren't seen as Cool.
