According to Wikipedia the value thing has already happened and will probably continue:
'Owning a Yo is the pinnacle for most vintage mountain bike collectors and the value of these bikes in recent years has seen a significant rise'

I reckon this was written by a fat fan....Pinnacle indeed.
 
In answer to the original question , presumably any manufacturer that builds frames with the same tubing/angles/tube lengths and joined in the same way . Who that may be I don't know .
Not very helpful maybe but worth pointing out .
 
I thought it was accepted wisdom the Fat Chance went out of business because they failed to innovate and update.

This is of course the fate of many businesses that hit the mark early and then try to hold onto what they have, without realising that what they HAVE is actually what they HAD and now it is time to move forward, otherwise you get left behind, the DOGS BOLX and DONKIS NOB being two perfect examples of moving with the times.

As for US frame houses (and I don't even know what that means) being better in every respect to UK frame builders, that is just a provocative comment from someone who has almost no knowledge of the subject, which basically amounts to trolling. It might be slightly entertaining for a while, but it gets old really quickly.
 
Chris Chance still keeps up his profile in the industry. His ex wife, who hails from a wealthy family, apparently still controls the brand rights. Many blame her 'ways' for the companies demise, as well as a recession and the emergence of cheap sus bikes. With the resurgence of cycling's popularity, I wouldn't rule out the return of Fat City. The affection for the brand and it's awareness is too huge.


Bitd we all used to take so much pleasure in checking out cool bikes and taking them for a spin. I remember a Chinese American photographer with one of the first Klein Attitudes rolling into the shop. We all stood around incredulous, lifting it with one finger, then we went for a quick spin on it. Happy days and no envy or resentment towards him or the brand. In a way its sad that some of these old bikes and boutique parts have become so coveted now, forcing up prices.

I couldn't agree more.

Not only forcing the prices up, but in so doing taking them off the trails and out of their natural environment.

- A bold statement - who are you to judge that, what do you know about my knowledge or experience?

Fact: UK brands never had a significant standing in the historical perspective with regards to what was "hot/boutique/the right stuff" - there was never a innovation or anything close to being unique (ref. FCC). UK brands are or have never been "up there" among the US brands - just face it, sorry! What the standing is on your reef domestically is another story. I guess this question 'Who is the U.K equivilent of FAT City Cycles?' is more about a strive for / a desire to achieve protectionism and self justification.

Your last point NeilM is the key. I have every intention of riding all mine though for as long as I can. The components are built to last unlike much of the modern stuff. In 5/10 years the next generation won't likely know or care about Fats, original Kleins, Goats etc then their values will plummet, unless they have special historical significance to a collector.
