i think if you have any means to recieve tv channels ,ie internet ,phone etc,you need a tv licence

No, that's definitely wrong. There's a lot of misinformation on this subject and the TV licensing are responsible for much of it.

However, from their site's front page;

"If you watch or record television programmes as they're being shown on TV you must, by law, be covered by a TV Licence, no matter what device you're using."

So, watching non-live iPlayer doesn't count and just owning a TV set certainly doesn't.

I watch maybe 1hr per week. Could happily live without it. I've noticed that the more channels there are, the less there is worth watching. Would struggle without t'interweb though. :D

loophole here ... if I watch something digitally thru the freeview box, theres about a 3 second delay than if I watch something analogue. So technically, watching it via freeview means I'm not watching it "as theyre being shown on tv"

I'm not a lawyer or any kind of legal expert, but I'm fairly sure that the law talks about receiving the signal; what happens with it after that is irrelevant. Your freeview box is receiving the signal over the air as it's broadcast, no matter what subsequent processing it carries out or whether you can even see the resulting picture...

I got rid of my TV about 8 years ago and never missed it, and it made me realise how much of a distraction it was, there is so many other ways to waste time :LOL:
