That is true. I heard of that guy as well. If I remember correctly, he ordered 1.000 sets. Probably used Alibaba and found a company that produced the tires after his drawings. They will be 100,00 Euros a set from him.

The bigger loss in retrospekt was that you did not save 10% of your income to make that money work for you. Eg simply stuff it into divident paying stocks. Much bigger loss by far, than any tyre. And everyone can do it, just follow the age old principle.

So, we all do wonder:
Did you personally follow your own advice about saving 10% of your income and make that money "work" for you?
And if yes, did it work out well at the end? After all, it's all about walking the talk in life, isn't it?
Everybody can basically run their mouth, (and way too many do) but few actually put their money where their mouth is because they don't actually trust their own "expert advice" enough or not at all.
What is the "age old principle", we (=basically everyone here) would like to follow this apparently classic investment principle. // Many thanks in advance for your advice/deep knowledge about this topic.

Why do you find it "dumb", if someone truly would like to have original ultra rare WHITE(!) vintage Onza tires,
because they maybe dreamt of them for a long long time....and about having them on their favorite vintage (YETI) mountain bike.
You know the thing is:
(Arguably) a very large amount or even most collectors agree that the old "original" parts "beat" the "repro"ones,
because it's more exclusive/of a thrill/exciting having the REAL vintage stuff instead of just a copy.
Maybe that's one of the main reasons that those rare parts fetch such high prices?
Question for you:
If you find all that so dumb, what would be the "intelligent" alternative for us collectors?

People pay what the market will bear, an auction with enough interested parties gives a good indicator of what that value is... it only takes two people that really want something & have the means....

If you have enough disposable income & a museum piece in need of tyres, why would you not pay the cost of having original tyres, assuming they are unlikely to be ridden much & kept in a climate controlled bike cave they should last....

If you actually want to ride on the tyres then the repro seems a good proposition assuming they last a little longer than the originals and you really want something that looks like the porcs.. lol

You should be precise. I didnt say it was dumb in general. I gave a long-ass explanation.

There is nothing "dumb" at all about wanting old rare parts for good money. The point is: In my (!) eyes, there is just a point where its plainly stupid. And everybody may set this point for himself. We dont need to discuss that further.

Neither we need to discuss "my opinion" or "your opinion" further. It simply leads to nothing
