so i got a new laptop, went to download itunes, which i've been using for years, essesntially i have downloaded Apple music, which is not the same.

obvs these money grabbing barstewards want is on subscription services these days, annoying but i think i just have to accept it.

so the question is Apple Music? Spotify? or youtube premium? which comes with youtube music.

i'm leaning towards youtube as premium means no adverts when watching youtube

thoughts?

Someone should point out to the ceo of Spotify that music was free on the radio for decades, and the creators still got paid. Perhaps the cost of content creation isn the issue. Maybe he could use some of his 4.8$ billion to figure out where the money went

Op, sorry for the rant. I listened to Spotify :(

No need to apologise. Its dissapointing but the damage goes back to Napster - and beyond that with the music industry milking the CD cow in the 80s and 90s. You could argue the record business overpricing the 'product' lead to a thirst for free music with the dawn of filesharing. Both harm the artists of course. And then you get renta quote tech CEOs mouthing off. At least he is wearing his admittedly dark heart on his sleeve.

We can actually take it all the way back to the dawn of music publishing. Well worth a read (as are all of Bob's books).

It totally depends on your listening tastes tbh. I haven't bothered with spotify, it seems great if you like generic releases & are satisfied by mainstream radio like music. If you are into niche genres or even indie type labels & off the wall bands you won't find much of it on spotify. But I'd bet you'll find it on YouTube.
I just have YT premium, no ads & quite possibly the most eclectic offering of music you'll find. I'm into live mixes of Dnb amongst other things, Spotify may come up with a result the artist but generally has a 4min edited version of a track or some lame playlist.
I'm not knocking Spoti' but I don't see any value in it for me.

Youtube premium was the best investment I did over the last 2 years. So satisfying without all the hassle and the ads. I watch so (!) much YT each day. World news but also very personal hobby related stuff from professionals and everyday people like me and you. Its just awesome!

Same here. No TV license just YT, I kinda hate admitting it, but the bulk of what I watch is highly professional & well made content that quite frankly puts anything on terrestrial TV to shame.
