Which Gripshift?

SRT 800 Xray was top of the gripshift range, 8sp only BITD
SRT 600 was 7 or 8 sp, one model down

I have a set of SRT 800s and love them!!!

800s or XRays. All the bike mechanics were gagging for them at the time ( " Dude they're transparent! "...etc ). The Tifosi went for the Sachs wavey simply because you had a better chance with the increased grip of changing gear in the rain. I love the X Rays but clean them with NOTHING BUT soapy water. They were super sensitive to ANY kind of solvent cleaning solution.

SRT - 800's were very brittle (prone to cracking around the clamp, and should always be mounted with a slight gap between them and the brake levers for the same reason.)

Others may be able to confirm, but I'm inclined to say that they are a little early for '98!

Completely agree. I have a set of X-800 (Clear X-Rays) that came with my 1995 Kona Explosif. That bike only had 200 miles when I parted it out. Both shifters had cracks on the plastic around the clamp. Still work, but rather disappointed about that. They also require a decent amount of force to shift, which I'm sure doesn't help the cracked clamping mechanism.

I also have the ESP 900 and they are smoother shifting, more comfortable grip and they don't crack. I also have some of the 7sp shifters and they have really lasted, but the rubber turns sticky over age.

Here's a pic of one my X800 clear shifters showing where they crack.
