Hello All, I was just lubing a chain and realised that I've been using Finish Line for some years and wondered what else Retrobikers have been using. What are your favourites and which are the ones to avoid? All information gratefully received. Thanks

GT85. Tried WD40 didn’t like it

GT85 is very good, clock up a lot of miles over winter, average of 200-300 a week, and works fab in grotty conditions, cheap and just requires regular spraying.

Finish Line Wet or Shimano Wet for me, not to knock those above but surely GT85/WD40 aint chain lube? I thought it was penetrating fluid type stuff... I use GT85/WD40 and a rag for cleaning old chain lube off lol...

Re:

WD-40 is NOT a lubricant ... it is a water displacement/cleaning agent.

Trying to use WD-40 as a lubricant (which doe snot leave any viscous/lubricative compounds behind after it evaporates) will accelerate the wear and tear of your components.

This....is the correct answer. And I use the Finish Line thick stuff for winter...when I actually ride a bike that is pppffft. (Awaits verbal abuse from Fluffychicken)
