So, off I popped into Davies Bros in Chester with all my birthday, Christmas and pocket money in the autumn of 1990 to pick up my Ridgeback 601LX

Nearly £300... "Hooowww muuuucchhhhh?!?!?!?!?!?" screamed the family

Went with my mate who picked up a Raleigh Montage as well - happy days, eh?!

;)

Got a Raleigh Alaska from Birkenhead Cycles in about '91.

Not a bad bike but weighted a fricken ton

i've never bought a bike from a bike shop, closest i've come was buying a new frame off ebay

If I type

'Buy a bike! Buy a bike! Get down to....'

Quite a few people in the Wigan area could probably complete that.

If we discount kids bikes, then Halfords  (lasted 2 weeks), then the local bike shop (lasted 2 months) and then I bought a second hand Saracen Jump thing (lasted about 2 years). Next and last ever new bike was Chain Reaction Cycles (much better still works brilliantly) :D

Although now I just tend to buy projects and build them how I want them.

Dec 1991 - My parents matched my pound for pound upto 200 quid, saw a holdsworth in Kings cycles in taunton, but then saw the 1992 GT Outpost in Ralph Coleman Cycles for £250 quid, triple triangle won my over, so had ot save my £8/wk paper round money for a bit longer.

I got my first new bike from The Bike Shop (That's what it's called now, can't remember the name back then) in Skipton in 1990. It was a 1989 Saracen Tufftrax. I'd paid a deposit some time before then slowly paid off the balance.

My mate beavis got his 1990 Marin Palisades on the same day from the same shop.

A Dawes Wildcat from Tower Cycles in Newton Abbot, Devon. I was built like a flyrod and the old chap who had spent his life selling road bikes told me I would need a 23.5" frame. The smallest in the range was a 19" which would have been far more suitable.

In London with my parents (who must have contributed in some way- can't remember now) and bought an Orange Clockwork in a shop on Buckingham Palace Road. Can't remember the name now.

First bike I bought myself. Lusted after it for ages in MBUK and eventually shelled out £539 IIRC for full orange and white DX loveliness. That replaced the Saracen Sahara I had before it. Which if I did buy myself I can't remember where or when. All about the Orange. :)
