When did the P7 become obese?

BITD, i had it in my head that the Orange P7 was a really light frame, and would easily build into a 22/23lb bike. Looking at more modern versions, i've come across a 2002 frame that the seller says weighs 6lb :shock:

Do i have rose tinted memories or did the P7 get fat?

The 1997 Catalogue shows that a 19" P7 frame weighs 2090g, and the fork 890g.

That's pretty light for a steel frame isn't it?

I'm guessing it's put beef on since freeride / jumps became the norm.

I'd say that's pretty average. I reckon my Lava Dome frame only weighs a few ounces more and that's built into a 23lb bike

Still, to go from 4.6lb to nearer 6lb is a big increase. It's not like there is any obvious 'beefing up'. Tubes are all the same diameter etc. I wonder whether his scales are just wrong?

If it happened it was after '98.

My P7 weighs 24lb on the nose with pretty hefty bits and bobs, relatively speaking.

I am pretty confident of a 23 pounder once a few bits are swapped out.

My Raleigh Firefly, scooped from skip and used for the last two years, weighs in at 37lbs so even at a lardy 24lb the P7 feels like it floats.
