Have put wheels and hubs in lbc and they are charging me £120 to build them up.This includes dt revolution spokes. Is the price about right? Regards John.

We charge from £1 per spoke & nipple

From £20 to build a wheel

So a basic build with regular spokes (32h) would cost £104

Using high end spokes would cost more, so it doesn't sound too bad

DT Revolution spokes cost over £80 a box of 72 from a retailer, so more than a quid a spoke without nipples

I paid 80 something for 2 x 32h with ally nipples and dt double butted spokes, revolutions are 50p/spoke more expensive.

WOW, i paid £40 for two wheels to be built, I provided the XT Hubs, and Ritchey Rims and he provided the DT Spokes and build. I did drop them off as he is local and collect so no postage involved. He is a qualified wheel builder with many years of expierience, wheels are running true and perfect. This has been posted on another thread, and i did provide his details to another retrobike rider.

:)

We'd charge £80 for a pair, including Sapim Race double butted stainless steel spokes (2.0 / 1.8mm). Black spokes £5 extra per wheel, black polyax (i.e. not alloy) nipples also extra £5.

I also stock and use DT and ACI, but I slightly prefer Sapim. Of course, if money's no object I'd strongly recommend Sapim CX-Ray spokes, the best spokes in the world, but they are £2 per spoke!

He must have made no money on that then, duoble butted spokes?

I'm guessing depends on how much he is purchasing his Spokes for. Needless to say, on the last thread about wheelbuilding there was a wide spread of costs to build wheels. He does advertise on ebay and the cost per wheel does include postage back once built. I was able to drop off and collect so saved pennies on that.

Silver Revolutions £46 for 72 from Chain Reaction, including brass nipples. Black ones are £64.

Chain Reaction's cost for a pair of M785/XC717/black Rev wheels built up is £227. The cost of the parts to build yourself is £218. So you only pay £9 for the build and they fund most of it from eating into their profits on the parts.

I had an Alfine rear wheel built recently and it cost me £15. I did supply the spokes myself though, as I managed to source the ones I wanted fairly cheap. They did a great job though, really pleased with it.

Having said that, every other lbs I tried in the area quoted me between £40-£90 including spokes.
