Whats your worst EBAY experience?

Do you have some horror ebay stories?
Some time ago i won these NOS TNT bolts on German ebay
when they came in i found that they were incomplete Campa bolts with TNT tag.
(seller "calippoo" btw)

A few times before happened to me that things were not properly described
and came in in worse shape than i expected.
But this was the first time i received something else then claimed.
I gave negative comment and thats about it. They were 10EUR
so not so big deal.
But still, it fascinates me some people have balls to do this..
:roll:

i know of someone who put in a £250 bid on an "xboxbox" thinking it a typo.......they recieved........you guessed it!........following a lengthy wrangle with ebay it was deemed to be a legitimate sale and no money was returned!!........it shows that in a sea of good intenioned people there is the odd bad apple......

I've had a few naughty deals but probably as many that turn out to be better then expected tbh. I don't really like ebay so try not to use it much but sometimes needs must.

I've not really had too many bad deals. Although I've had one that went really bad last year. Bought an item from someone who'd PhotoShopped their eBay listing picture to make them look a whole heap newer than they were. Then once they'd been returned they claimed I'd returned duplicate items that we're indeed faulty. [sigh]. Took a while to sort out but ebay eventually settled it in my favour. It was such a pain it put me off ebay for a while. I've clocked the seller on other forums too and avoid him now.

Then recently I bought some egg beaters from another seller. A month later I tried to put them on a bike and it turned out they were bent. Thought I was gonna be in a world of pain trying to get it sorted but the guy was super slick at dealing with it and sending me my money back.

Goes to show, you never can tell.

Only one:
I Won an item cheaply (free shipping).

The seller then claimed it was heavier than he anticipated - So I would need to pay shipping.

As a good-will gesture, I paid the shipping calculated by the Post Office (he wanted about double that amount);
Item did not arrive for 3 weeks, so I started an Ebay dispute;
Item arrived in an OPEN box - No duct tape etc.
Item had seized bearings and was cross-threaded. Incorrect nuts had been forced onto the axle threads.

I had to re-tap the threads, but it worked out OK. And the item WAS cheap.
I left appropriate feedback :twisted:

Everyone else I have dealt with (buyer or seller) has been very cool.

Bought a Cannondale Gemini Team DH bike a few years back (when I was new to eBay and very gullible!).

Bike was new, and was worth around £4k but had a BIN of £1200 with £100 postage as it was coming from France. I received excellent communication from the seller during the couple of days leading up to the sale, and nothing else to suggest that he was up to no good. All the emails came in a proper eBay format (which later turned out to have been faked) and I didn't suspect anything. He'd even sent additional pictures of the bike with his username and the date next to it on a bit of paper.

The seller wanted payment via Western Union (not Paypal) - as I was new to eBay I fell for it hook, line and sinker and trotted off down to my local Western Union outlet to pay up.

I received one more email from the seller, just after I'd paid - then nothing. No bike, no communication. I got the police involved who traced the IP address to an internet cafe just outside Paris, but then gave up because they couldn't be arsed to pursue it any further.

Before I get the whole "if something sounds too good to be true, it probably is" lecture, I've learned my lesson now, although I do sometimes think that if I had that £1200 now it would buy me a lovely old Fat Chance :roll:

Bought a set of cranks and chainrings for the 99p starting price. The picture was crap and the description vague. Threw them straight in the bin when they arrived. Lesson learnt.

i've just bought a hope headset in red
the photo was poor quality so i asked if it was a nice bright red like the usual hope stuff or if it was faded as it was hard to tell in the photo
it arrived on tuesday, it is pink, and even has a bright red spacer with it so he wouldve been able to tell the difference,
also has the taper ring and taper ring cover missing, in their place are 2 random peices of other headsets (a crown race and a taper ring?)
no response from seller yet... watch this space,
thankfully through paypal so i might end up raising a dispute
