I've not seen one of these before and its only on one side.

they're quite useful on frames where putting the wheel back in is a bit faffy.

Means there's one less problem to deal with

Yes, I find it quite useful for stopping the chain dragging through the crap on the pavement when fixing a mid-ride flat.
