Whatever Happened To... Foam Tyres?

Think I might spend too much time on here. Had a dream last night that I saw a bike with a set of these complete with flat spot! :shock: :oops:
 
I had one on a roadie for a while. Truly horrible to fit and came off frighteningly easily.

Looked odd too with no valve stem.

must have been the wrong width... If the width is wrong it allows them to rock inside the rim. which then progresses to them rolling over the lip and off
 
Air-filled tyres are better because they make use of all the air in the tyre to absorb bumps. Solid tyres are crap because they don't.

That Michelin wheel is a clever idea, though it's only really aping the performance of an air-filled tyre by using a deformable wheel. They'll never achieve the economies of scale they'll need to make it affordable or viable.
